Affiliate Directory

Many people have asked whether there is an Out to Innovate chapter in their area, or how they might form a chapter. Instead of chapters, we have affiliates that we refer to as CAUCUS and REGIONAL GROUPs. A CAUCUS is a group of people — within the same discipline, or professional society, or company — with some common viewpoint. A REGIONAL GROUP is a group of people within a specific geographic area. Currently, the following groups are affiliated with Out to Innovate:

• Caucus: AGQ, American Geophysical Union
• Caucus: American Institute of Chemical Engineers
• Regional group: Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Scientists
• Regional group: NOGLSTP at University of Nebraska – Lincoln
• Caucus: ACS Pride (American Chemical Society members)
• Regional group: NOGLSTP at Purdue
• Caucus: Queer Science (University of Minnesota)
• Caucus: Spectra: The Association for LGBT Mathematicians
• Caucus: American Astronomical Society (AAS) Committee for Sexual-Orientation and Gender Minorities in Astronomy (SGMA)
• Caucus: Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists (L’GASP)
• Caucus: NuclearPRIDE Fabulous Nuclear Engineers and their Friends

• A CAUCUS or REGIONAL GROUP has its own structure, governance, and purpose, but achieves Out to Innovate benefits through group affiliation. The most important benefit of group membership is having a representative on our Board of Directors. This arrangement allows groups of common interest to have a voice in matters of our governance, and to bring their unique issues, concerns and ideas to the Board. Although CAUCUS and REGIONAL GROUPS that affiliate with us are autonomous in governance, mission, and activities, it is expected that the group will respect our policies on member privacy, equal opportunity, and 501c3 issues.
• NOGLSTP.net will host your group website if you don’t already have one. The URL will be www.noglstp.net/yourgroupname. Someone from your group, however, is responsible for making sure the site content is up to date.
• The other advantage is possible fiscal sponsorship for fundraising purposes that align with our mission. This is done on a case by case basis after discussion with the Treasurer, Board Approval, 501c3 training, and execution of an MOU the affiliate and us.

How to form a CAUCUS or REGIONAL GROUP

Group membership is attained through formalizing a critical mass of individual Out to Innovate members or by payment of annual group dues. Both of these affiliation methods are available to professional societies and not-for-profit groups. In the critical mass method, a minimum of 5 regular Out to Innovate members having a common discipline, mission or geography may create an independent association and apply for membership as a CAUCUS or REGIONAL GROUP. This group may also have members who are not regular Out to Innovate members, and the group’s representative is responsible for keeping them informed about Out to Innovate news.
